Snapshot Before Risky Changes, Roll Back Instantly

About to upgrade a database, change a kernel, or test a config you are not sure about? Take a snapshot first. Snapshots are on-demand restore points you create yourself, so if something breaks you can roll the whole server back to the exact moment before you started. They are now available directly in your DCXV control panel.

Where to find it

Open any cloud server in your control panel and look at the Server controls. Click the Snapshots button to open the snapshots window for that server.

Create a snapshot in one click

At the top of the window you will see your current balance and the snapshot monthly price for that server. To create a snapshot, type an optional description (up to 120 characters, handy for remembering why you took it) and click Add. Leave the description blank and the system gives it a default name. The snapshot is captured and appears in the list below.

Your snapshots, listed and ready

Each snapshot in the list shows its date and description, with two actions:

  • Restore - rolls the server back to that snapshot. The panel warns you first: the server is stopped, rolled back to the selected snapshot, and started again, and the current server state will be lost. Confirm and you are back to that point in seconds.
  • Remove - deletes the snapshot. Removing it stops the recurring snapshot charge from the next billing period.

How pricing works

Snapshots are a paid, recurring add-on. The price is based on the disk size of your server and is billed monthly, and the exact figure is shown right in the window before you add one. If your balance is too low to cover it, the Add button is disabled and a short notice with a Pay link appears, so there are no surprises.

Snapshots vs backups

It is worth knowing the difference:

  • Backups are taken automatically and are great for recovering from yesterday's problem. They are a safety net you do not have to think about.
  • Snapshots are created by you, on demand, right before a risky change - your own undo button for that specific moment.

Use them together: rely on automatic backups day to day, and add a snapshot whenever you are about to do something you might want to undo.

Try it

Snapshots are live now in your control panel for every cloud server. If you want Tier III cloud hosting in Europe with instant rollback at your fingertips, spin up a cloud server in Europe.
